PREPARE to PASS the Garda Trainee Stage 2 Recruitment Interview

Reaching Stage 2 of the Garda Trainee Recruitment Process is an important milestone. The interview gives candidates the opportunity to demonstrate that they possess the qualities, judgement, motivation and personal attributes required for a career with An Garda Síochána.

Effective Garda Interview Preparation is absolutely essential.

The Stage 2 Garda Trainee Competency Based Interview assesses candidates across five key competencies:

  • Interpersonal Skills & Service Ethos
  • Exercising Authority
  • Conscientiousness
  • Resilience
  • Using Information & Problem Solving

Candidates should prepare strong, relevant examples from work, education, sport, volunteering or other life experience. It is not enough to simply describe a situation. The Interview Board needs to understand what you did, why you took that approach, how you dealt with challenges and what result you achieved.

Candidates should also be prepared for probing and follow-up questions. These are designed to explore the quality of your evidence and establish your own personal contribution.

As a recently retired Garda Superintendent and former Interview Board Chairperson, in Featherstone Interview Coaching, I bring extensive first-hand experience of competency-based interviewing, interview boards and Garda Trainee character assessment.

Through my personalised one-to-one Garda Interview Coaching, I help candidates understand what the Interview Board is looking for, identify and strengthen their best competency examples, structure their answers effectively and practise responding to realistic interview questions.

Guidance is also provided on how to tackle the challenging Role Play scenario, including how to assess the situation, remaincomposed, communicate effectively and demonstrate appropriate judgement and decision-making.

A mock interview forms an important part of the preparation process, allowing candidates to experience the pace and pressure of a real interview, followed by focused and practical feedback.

I offer every client a choice of their preferred coaching format: i.e. “In Person” in Clane, Co. Kildare OR “Online” via Zoom – the client decides.

My approach to Professional Interview Coaching is not about providing scripted answers. It is about helping candidates present their own experience, their own evidence and their own motivation with greater structure, confidence and impact.

So far, all clients who have undergone my Garda Trainee Interview Coaching have passed their Stage 2 Recruitment Interview.

PREPARE thoroughly, know your examples and give yourself the best possible opportunity to deliver a high-performance Garda Trainee Stage 2 Interview.
